FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: what position will the players play?
A:As we are a development program ,all players will learn how to play both ends of the ice in any game/scrimmage . First half of the game/scrimmage players will be assigned to play forward or defence and then in the second half of the game they will switch ( forward to defence and vice versa) . This provides all players a chance to develop at all positions which is crucial to any hockey player’s future development.Offensive skills and defensive skills will be reinforced in our training /practice sessions .
Q: will the players have equal playing time?
A: Yes . our games/scrimmages are 44 min . Each period is 22min with a 90 sec buzzer that signals a line change to our tier 2 line players . So all players will receive a guaranteed 22 min of ice time . In most cases more then double what they would receive in any town league program
Q: WILL THERE BE PENALTIES?
A1: yes. only obvious calls will be made ( tripping, body checking, slashing ). a penalty shot will be awarded to the non-offending team. after which the puck will be live for all players to continue to play .
A2: any swearing or intent to injure another player will not be tolerated and will be dealt with on a player by player basis. ( ie. missing 2/3 shifts ,removal from game may be warranted.)
Q: WILL THERE BE OFFSIDES?/CORRECTION COMPONENT ?
A: yes. Our referrees are also our instructors and they will help to guide /teach players rules of offsides
while the puck is in play in order to keep the flow of the game and maximize play time. they will also at times stop the play and instruct players on their positioning . WIth repeated corrections , these players really start to learn their roles and become more efficient and skilled players
Q: HOW MANY PLAYERS ARE ON THE ICE AT ONE TIME ?
A: Generally the games are 4 on 4 so we can teach players their defensive roles and offensive positions . towards the last month of the season ,we will choose one or two games per week to bring in a 5th player for each side so that we can teach the role of the centerman position..
