Welcome to Original Six Hockey 1942.

The original six era of the National Hockey League began in 1942 with the demise of the Brooklyn Americans reducing the league to six teams: Boston Bruins,Chicago Black Hawks,Detroit Red wings,New York Rangers ,Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens.
It was an era where Maurice Richard scored 50 goals in a season ( 1944-1945). Gordie Howe made his NHL debut ( 1946) retiring 32 years later as the NHL’s all time leader in goals and points ( that is until Wayne Gretzky spoiled the party on oct,16,1989). In 1959 Jacques Plante became the first goaltender to wear a protective mask. It was also a time when the NHL introduced the center- ice redline ( 1948) in an attempt to “open up” the game by allowing for the first time a player to pass out of their defensive zone. what an intriquing time it was!!!!
The original six structure remained stable for a quarter of a century with the era ending in 1967.Now lets fast forward 76 years where the new ” business first ”  NHL has expanded to 32 teams . While the new players may have that speed and agility which was lacking from the players of  original six era, the love and loyalty toward the game along with its  unique and mystique elements are surely missed from that incredible time!!

So rather then just sit back and dream….we decided  to recapture some of the past by travelling back in time to create a fresh ,new, vibrant  and exciting hockey Development program….THE ORIGINAL SIX HOCKEY 1942 DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. This hockey development program was designed and created for tyke level players looking to develop their skating and hockey skills while playing fast paced full iced hockey.  Our new Program will feature assembled teams from G.T.A cities which will be wearing simulated logos of the NHL original six teams:  The Aurora Canadiens, The Newmarket Rangers,  The Bradford Bruins, The Georgina Blackhawks, The Richmond Hill Red wings and The Stouffville Leafs.

The key to The Original Six Hockey Program will be skating and hockey development by experienced and professional coach.  Along with qualified instructors and coaches, will take every player through challenging drills specifically intended to bring out their full potential.

The rivalry between The Montreal Canadiens , The Toronto Maple Leafs and The Boston Bruins of the original six team era, was truly intense.  Our hockey teams will also strive to create a friendly but competitive rivalry between our neighbouring G.T.A. city teams.  The season promises to be exciting and with a healthy dose of hockey development, our players will come away with a very memorable hockey season.
The 1942 Stanley Cup finals was the best of seven series between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings.  In the first ever cup final to go to seven games, the Maple Leafs won their fourth Stanley cup.  Original Six Hockey 1942 would like to rekindle that majestic era with our own tyke players engaging in a high intense and fun hockey and a chance of hoisting The Original Six Hockey Stanley Cup !!!

Our Mission Statement

The Original Six Hockey 1942 Development Program will strive to provide young players who may or may not be involved in Hockey Canada’s Initiation Program    (I.P), an opportunity to further develop their skating and hockey skills through a professional development skill based program. Read more
